ED-P.KaramPatricia Karam, Ph.D.

Executive Director, Greater San Antonio After-School All-Stars

 

Dr. Patricia Karam is the Executive Director of  Greater San Antonio After-School All-Stars, a non-profit that provides comprehensive after-school programs for elementary and middle school at-risk youth.

 

Dr. Karam has served in this position for 11 years, during which she has grown the program reach 450%, from six schools to 33 schools in two school districts. Prior to this, she was Executive Director for Student Services in the San Antonio ISD.

 

She brings 30 years experience in the San Antonio education community, all within the San Antonio Independent School District (SAISD), where she served as a teacher, counselor, Director Guidance Services and Executive Director of Student Services, which includes Counseling and Guidance, Social Workers, Health Services, and Adult and Community Education.  

 

Dr. Karam holds a Bachelor of Science and Master of Education from San Antonio’s Our Lady of the Lake University, as well as a PhD from University of North Texas. She also has several certifications, including her Certificate of Non-Profit Management from the University of Texas at San Antonio.    

 

John Almaguer, M.Ed.

Program Coordinator  

 

John is the Site Coordinator for the High School Completion Grant/San Antonio City Challenge Program at Brentwood Middle School, EISD. He also serves as the Coordinator for Inner City Games for the Greater San Antonio After-School All-Stars.  

 

John joined Greater San Antonio After-School All-Stars in 2005. He continues his dedication to maximizing individual student academic and career success through the delivery of after-school education. He has two years of private school experience and 32 years experience in SAISD, where he served as instructor and school administrator for three middle schools and three high schools.  

 

He holds a Bachelors Degree from St. Mary’s University and a Master of Education/ Mid Management Certification from Our Lady of the Lake University.  

 

He enjoys family, grandchildren, building trades, fishing, and movies.    

 

Mary Cheuvront, MBA, CPA

Comptroller  

 

Mary Cheuvront is the Comptroller for Greater San Antonio After-School All-Stars. She has been the Comptroller with the organization since its inception in 2003, and also previously when San Antonio was originally selected as a chapter. 

 

Mary has extensive experience in nonprofit financial management and worked with United Way and other nonprofit agencies. She was also Co-Executive Director for the Alamo Area Rape Crisis Center. 

 

She is a graduate of The University of Texas at San Antonio and earned a Bachelor of Business Administration and a Master’s Degree in Business Administration. She is a Certified Public Accountant in the state of Texas.  

 

Mary enjoys traveling with her family and spending time at her childhood home in Panna Maria, Texas.  

 

Roberta Hatfield, B.A.

Program Coordinator  

 

Roberta Hatfield is a Program Coordinator for Greater San Antonio After-School All-Stars, supervising after-school programs in the San Antonio Independent School District (SAISD). Her first role with Greater San Antonio After-School All-Starswas as a Site Facilitator with Brentwood Middle School in the Edgewood School District (EISD).

 

Roberta joined Greater San Antonio After-School All-Stars in May of 2013, after a 28 year teaching career, with 24 of those years at Woodlawn Hills Elementary School in SAISD. Before teaching at Woodlawn Hills, Roberta taught in the Houston, Austin, and Edgewood Independent School Districts.  

 

She is a graduate of Trinity University in San Antonio, Texas, with a Bachelor of Arts in Elementary Education.  

 

Roberta is a native of San Antonio and, consequently, a huge Spurs fan! In her spare time she enjoys traveling, movies, and reading, as well as spending time with friends and family.    

 

Juan Hernandez, M.Ed.

Special Projects Coordinator  

 

Juan is the Special Projects Coordinator for Greater San Antonio After-School All-Stars and has been with the organization for 10 years. During his time with Greater San Antonio After-School All-Stars, Juan has managed the 21st Century and After-School Challenge Programs.  

 

Prior to joining Greater San Antonio After-School All-Stars, Juan spent 28 years in the San Antonio education community, ending that experience as Principal of Woodlawn Hills Elementary School in the San Antonio Independent School District (SAISD). Prior to that, he spent 12 years as a middle school Principal and Assistant Principal in SAISD. Juan began his career as a high school and middle school math and science teacher, as well as a school counselor.  

 

Juan received his Bachelor of Arts in Math and Spanish from Our Lady of the Lake University in San Antonio. He holds a Masters in Education in Guidance and Counseling from Sul Ross State University as well as a Masters in Educational Mid-Management form Our Lady of the Lake University.  

 

During his free time, Juan enjoys going to the family ranch in Carrizo Springs, Texas, and spending time with his son and two grandsons. He loves to hunt, fish and barbecue.    

 

Sandra Plant, M.A.

Special Projects Coordinator  

 

Sandra Plant is a Special Projects Coordinator for Greater San Antonio After-School All-Stars, a non-profit that provides comprehensive after-school programs for elementary and middle school at-risk youth.  

 

Sandra joined Greater San Antonio After-School All-Stars in 2007, after retiring from 30 years of service to public education in Texas. Ms. Plant taught elementary school in Killeen ISD, Killeen, Texas, and Brenham ISD in Brenham, Texas. She served San Antonio ISD, San Antonio, Texas, as a teacher, assistant principal, and principal for 26 years.  

 

She earned a Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education from Mary Hardin Baylor University and holds a Masters in Educational Leadership from the University of Texas at San Antonio.  

 

In her free time, Sandra enjoys spending time with her grandchildren and children. She also likes exercise and the theater.    

 

Bertha E. Rubio, M.Ed.

Program Coordinator  

 

Bertha Rubio is a Program Coordinator for Greater San Antonio After-School All-Stars, supervising after-school programs in the San Antonio Independent School District. She coordinates the program in 10 elementary schools working with the staff, parents, and students. 

 

Bertha joined Greater San Antonio After-School All-Stars in 2016 after retiring from a 35 year career as an educator in the San Antonio Independent School District. She was a teacher, counselor, and assistant principal before assuming the position of elementary principal for more than 20 years. 

 

She earned a Bachelor of Science from Texas Women’s University and a Master of Education from the University of Texas in San Antonio. She participated in the Harvard Principal Leadership Center Program. 

 

Bertha enjoys traveling and spending time with her family.

 

Sandra Villarreal, M.A.

Program Coordinator  

 

Sandra Villarreal is a Program Coordinator for Greater San Antonio After-School All-Stars, a non-profit that provides comprehensive after-school programs for elementary and middle school at-risk youth.  

 

Sandra joined Greater San Antonio After-School All-Stars in 2012, and she supervises 10 elementary schools and one middle school in the Edgewood Independent School District. She brings 30 years of experience in education from the San Antonio Independent School District as a teacher of the deaf, Special Education Supervisor, Assistant Principal, and Principal.  

 

Ms. Villarreal holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from Trinity University, and her Master of Education in Educational Leadership from the University of Texas at San Antonio.

 

In her free time, Ms. Villarreal enjoys traveling and camping with her family
